***Mike & Bristol Update*** (please ignore the cat picture!!) As I sit here and type this, I almost want to cry. This had been an amazing experience for me and I hope for a lot of people as well. For myself, its become a journey of learning about hope, trust, generosity, kindness, compassion, empathy and love. The love that people have for their dogs & cats, which makes it easy to see how much Mike loves Bristol...and Bristol loves Mike. The kindness, compassion & generosity that people still have for fellow humans in a tough spot. Its been an awakening for me. People that I know really cant afford to donate, have. I KNOW how much it hurts to give away 2 or 3 dollars when you only have 10 to make it to payday. I also know how good it feels to go to bed at night, hugging the knowledge that you cared enough to help a fellow dog lover. Mike, I am so very glad that I met you, Even though weve only talked over the phone, I feel like I know you. You are a very smart, good hearted person and a fantastic dog owner. Bristol comes first in your world, always. When you fly your cardboard any money that you make...its for Bristol. The other day, it got cold where you are and all your money went into getting Bristol a coat, sweater and food. You do without, but she never will. You have my respect - and thats pretty damned hard to earn. Having said all of that (sorry, didnt mean to write a book!) I want to give a HUGE Thank you to all who have donated and to all who have shared the posts about Mike & Bristol. Stephanie May, Patricia Hill, Rebecca Bilokur-Tobias, Jolie Pavent, Sophia Macias, Jessica Rasmussen, Chase Knott, MacPherson Frazer, Ann Lange, Carol Walters, Pattie Ong, Edna Karinski, Bonnie Pellerin, and Sandra Thacker. Mike & Bristol now have $287.42, some of which was just used to get them a motel room (at my insistence) because its starting to rain. Mike was upset because he really didnt want to spend money on a motel again, he wants to use it for gas money for people who may be able to give him a ride or for a way to get to Daytona Florida. Hes been choosing to sleep outdoors the past few nights, even though he wakes up soaked from frost. He only took a motel room tonight because I insisted, he really didnt want to waste as he calls it, the money of so many people who cared. But I convinced him because its one thing to sleep out when its in the 40s and wake up wet. Its another thing entirely to be out in a freezing rain when its in the 40s. I also wanted to give a special Thanks to Edna Karinski, for working so hard to help Mike (and myself) with ideas and researching alternative means of travel. Also want to thank Kristen LaBlanc for posting so much and for trying to locate others who can help. And also Andrea Castinetti who was willing to rent Mike a car, but its just not possible, so she is now researching trains and local shuttles, the kind that train workers and boat workers take when they have to meet their trains or boats. I am so grateful to all of you. Its been a humbling experience for me, to see how much people care. Okay, enough of the sappy stuff! lol Im going to kind of out Mike here. Mike, I really, REALLY hope you dont get mad at me. I need everyones take on this, its important. Ive told Mike repeatedly that the money donated is FOR him & Bristol. The donations pay for motel stay, and transport. Ive told Mike the money is to be used for him & Bristol. IF Mike chooses not to use it, I will contact all who donated and offer them a choice, donations can either be refunded to them or they can let us use it towards other family pets we are helping. But the money is intended for him and he should use it - he is NOT taking advantage of anyone, neither is he taking away from other pets that need it. Mike is worried and upset about spending the money at all. In fact, its putting him under a lot of stress. PLEASE dont anyone take that the wrong way!! He is under stress because he feels like he doesnt deserve the money. He feels like he isnt special enough or doing enough to earn the donations. And he hasnt said this - but I think he is very much afraid of letting us all down somehow. Here is the thing Mike. In order for you to ever let us down youd have to let Bristol down...and I feel completely confident in stating that will NEVER happen, not ever. I also want to re-state for those who may have missed my original post... Mike has never, not once, asked us for help. For The Love Of Pets approached Mike when we heard his story, to offer to help. Mike didnt want our help and was afraid to accept our help because he didnt want to expose us to the Haters he meets all too often in real life. Mike has told me repeatedly how touched he is, how amazed with how many wonderful people hes met online. I hope that you will all keep sharing this post. We still need to get Mike & Bristol to Daytona and any help with that will be so very appreciated. I would also like to have enough left over to where we might even be able to help out with a pet deposit for when Mike and Bristol finally can get their very own place. If you are just reading Mike & Bristols story and would like to donate, you can donate by clicking on the blue link via Paypal or any credit/debit card. https://paypal/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=GBPF3RBCZSQBL PS...I have no idea of how the cat picture got in there, but Facebook wont let me delete it! Thats another thing Im working on, so sorry about that!
