Mike DiNatale posted this article and asked what folks thought about the findings. Some thoughts: As Jennifer Greer states, there is nothing new about these findings. Professionals have been saying this for years. The question here is who was polled for the study? Forward-thinking journalists and journalism programs or those stuck in the mud lamenting the new digital landscape? It makes a difference who is answering the question. Here at UMass we teach classes that cut across many skill sets, including: A multimedia class where students learn about blogging, video, social media and the history of Web journalism; an Entrepreneurial class that challenges students to develop their own business plans for journalism projects; as well as classes focusing on writing, reporting, ethics and photojournalism. Such an approach allows students to learn a bunch of different storytelling methods, and to be well-prepared for the job market. -- Steve
