Hey, in crazy backwards land, crazy backwards dude is king. * So far, Into Dimension X! is my absolute favorite episode of the Nick series, specifically because Michelangelo is finally taken seriously as his best potential is actually shown. He may hide it, but his reflexive intellectual abilities shine. Just because he appears uneducated, unaware, sophomoric, vapid, vacuous, and misguided, it doesnt mean that he is useless or worthless. Ever since I had that argument with David Wise, the head writer of the 1980s cartoon who wrote that particular Michelangelos vapid surfer personality, Ive been hoping and hoping that my Mikey could be portrayed as, well, better than what Wise turned him into. In fact, lots of ableist terms have been applied to Mikey. I still blame Wise. Hell, Ive even assumed that Michelangelo was on the spectrum. And after the Dimension X adventure and the encounter with the creature posing as Aprils mother, Mikey has shown amazing natural intuition, an ability to understand the nature of unusual things, and empathic sensitivity to his environment. Im hoping he might have a similar psychic ability to this incarnation of April, since she was born a Krang-human hybrid. I wonder if its too much to hope Mikey gets exposed to something that would pull out his natural psychic sensitivities. Then he could be more useful. *sigh* Then again, its projecting, because thats exactly what I wrote in my old fanfiction. Besides, the comedians generally hide the deepest sadness. TDLR: Michelangelo deserves more character exploration, may be on the autism spectrum, is not stupid, is obviously psychically sensitive, is usually ignored. *(As a person with plenty of Crazy myself, I chose to own the term, and I saw Dimension X and Michelangelo as my Crazy, not the ableist crazy.
