Mikie update: I am pleased to report that Mikie made a tiny poop and two small pees last night in the litter box. He is sick with a URI and is not interested in eating and I really dont know if he has had anything to drink. I lay awake all night in bed listening to his breathing and movement around the room. He is in quarantine in my bedroom which happens to be the largest room in the house. A year ago we tore down a wall and flipped the living room with the bedroom and the result is a much more satisfactory use of space. I wanted Mikie to have as much room as possible as he is a big boy and needs to move. He FINALLY early this morning settled back down in his crate with the door open. I had been told he likes that but after his arrival, he actually stayed away from it and refused to go near that side of the room. I really think he had reached his limit of stress yesterday - after being abandoned at the shelter for several days, taken out and going to one place, then moving again, going to the vet, another night spent in a strange place, then traveling all the way here - I just think he lost his mind. I ignored him all of yesterday and only petted him occasionally and very briefly. He seems to be a bit calmer but not any happier necessarily. He is on high alert still and the story of him living in a MULTIPLE TODDLER (possibly daycare?) environment definitely shows in how he seems to be a bit hyper-vigilant. He is very reactive vocally, almost a hey, I am here, watch out - not really asking for attention, more of a warning of sorts perhaps to avoid being stepped on, bothered, or harassed. I am reading into this but that is what it seems like. He seemed cautious (as I watched him in the dark) as he went to potty - he looked all around the box as if to make sure nothing was near. Poor thing. No wonder he didnt want to use his box in his old home. Mikie is kind of a sad boy - I really hope I can make him feel secure and not have to worry about anything.
