Miland Frederick Simpler, Sr. is a tall man in both stature and spirit. He dropped out of school in the sixth grade to help support his family on the farm. He served his country in WWII. He has always loved the music of Hank Williams, since he first heard him singing in small honky tonks around Georgiana. He worked for Colonial Bread Company for most of his life. He worked tirelessly for his church and to help anyone that needed it in any way he could. He taught me, with great patience, how to drive. I spent many summers with him and my grandmother and learned how to work a garden and to cook and preserve the bounty that grew there. He was always a man of few words, but they always held great wisdom. Always slow to anger and never quick to judge. I struggle greatly to live up to the fine example he has always set. His remaining days are few, but the memories I have of him are many and good. I thank God for allowing me to be a part of the legacy that he will too soon leave behind, and I find comfort in the fact that his pain will soon end and his everlasting life will be one without the burdens this world holds. My life has been better because of him.
