*** Milder weather pattern expected to evolve into the first week of December. *** The deep eastern U.S. trough that has dominated the region much of November, will begin to lift to the northeast over the next couple of days. In its wake...a large scale zonal flow is expected to develop. What this will equate to for us is a milder westerly flow aloft with a series of fast moving Pacific-based cold fronts. Yes...there will still be some very cold air around...but with this pattern...it will likely remain bottled up closer to the Canadian border and not penetrate so deeply south of 40-degrees latitude (e.g., PA/MD border area) as it has much of the past several weeks. The big shopping day after Thanksgiving will be chilly as the final in a seemingly endless series of Arctic highs skirts across the region. However, it will still be several degrees warmer than with the cold outbreak a couple of weeks ago and outside of a few flurries or snow showers in the mountains, it will be dry and most roads will be in good shape for travel., especially east of the Blue Ridge. Sunday, the big after Thanksgiving travel day, appears to be mostly sunny and mild with highs around 50 in the mountains to around 60 in the Piedmont. Good weather for traveling! Above normal temperatures are expected to continue into next week with no significant surges of Arctic air or snow storms expected at this time.
