Militant injured, breaks cordon, succumbs in forests 2 soldiers hurt in encounter; protestors set ablaze 2 police vehicles Tral again SHOWKAT DAR Tral, July 5: A Jaish-e-Muhammad militant was killed and two army men injured in a fierce gunfight between forces and militants in Tral area of south Kashmir Saturday morning. Amid protests against the militant’s killing, clashes broke out in the area with forces resorting to aerial firing and tear smoke shelling. The angry protestors torched two police vehicles. A police official said that teams of army’s 42 RR, 35 RR and police laid a cordon in Aripal village in Tral at around 4:30 A.M. after getting information about presence of 2-3 militants in the area. “As the forces started searches, the militants hiding in the village opened fire on the forces, triggering an encounter,” he said. “One militant sustained bullet injuries but he along with his associates managed to escape towards nearby forest area,” police sources said, adding that two soldiers also sustained bullet injuries in the firing. The forces later cordoned the whole area and launched a massive manhunt. During the searches, the injured militant was found dead in the forests, police sources said. Police identified the slain as a foreign militant commander named Aadil Pathan. Forces were continuing the searches in the area till evening to trace the other militants, reports said. “We had inputs about hiding militants in the village,” Dy SP Awantipora, Parvez Hussain said. However police did not officially confirm injury to army men. As the news about the death of the militant spread in Tral, hundreds of youth took to streets and held massive protests. The protestors were raising pro-freedom and anti- Indian slogans. As the forces were busy in search operations, protestors pelted stones on them. The forces resorted to aerial firing and lobbed tear smoke shells on the protestors. The angry protestors set ablaze two police vehicles, police officials said. As the body of the slain militant was handed over to locals, hundreds of people from different areas of Tral took it to village Pastoona for burial. Hundreds of people attended the funeral prayers. Complete strike was observed in the area. Meanwhile, searches were conducted in different areas in Tral throughout the day. People were brought down from vehicles and their identity cards were checked.
