Milstead Automotive to host blood drive, June 27 SPRING (June 9, 2014) – Milstead Automotive & Towing, in conjunction with the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, will host a blood drive at its campus located at 29797 West Hawthorne in Spring, on Fri., June 27 from 10 am until 2:30 pm. Amy Milstead, president of Milstead Automotive, stresses the importance of giving blood, especially during this time of year. “As one of the largest towing fleets in the county, our drivers see numerous accidents on a daily basis, with many of the drivers and passengers sustaining life-threatening injuries.” Now, with school out of session and as we head into the summer months, many families are taking to the roadways for their annual summer vacations. As a result, with more cars on the road, car accidents typically increase in June, July and August. Many times, accident victims need blood transfusions and without life-saving donations, blood supplies can reach critical lows. Also, blood donations typically decrease during the summer months due to vacations and other changes to routines and schedules. However, the demand for blood is still high. According to Meagan Raeke, media relations manager for Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center, “We need to collect 1,000 donations every day just to meet the needs of our patients in our 26-county region.” It only takes 30-45 minutes to donate blood and every donation can help save as many as three lives, Raeke added. All eligible donors are encouraged to participate. Donors must bring a personal photo ID (i.e. state issued driver’s license or ID, passport, military ID, work ID, school ID, green card or work visa); be at least 17 years of age; weigh a minimum of 110 pounds; be hydrated prior to donating; eat a healthy meal two to four hours before donating; and be in good overall health. Eligible donors will receive a T-shirt and a free oil change voucher for Milstead Automotive.
