Minister Griffith’s crime plan it to monitor who comes and leaves T&T with biometric fingerprinting identification, but cant find the person[s] responsible for the nearly 100 murders in T&T since Jan 1, of this year. Please Minister Griffith I look forward to seeing you being fired from that post long before we hit the 200th murder for 2014... To date you have not implemented any meaningful, effective measures to deter crime, or to increase arrests, and convictions of murderers and criminals in T&T. IF ONLY YOU WOULD IMPLEMENT THREE OF THE RECOMMENDATIONS GIVEN TO YOU BY Mr. BRATTON, POLICE COMMISSIONER OF NYC YOU WOULD HAVE FAR MORE SUCCESS AND THE POPULATION OF T&T WILL FEEL SAFER. AUTOMATED FINGERPRINTING COMING SOON TO ANR ROBINSON AIRPORT By Katy Stickland Story Created: Mar 4, 2014 at 11:41 AM ECT PASSENGERS passing through the ANR Robinson International Airport will soon have their fingerprints scanned as part of measures to strengthen the country’s borders. The Automated Fingerprint Identification Biometric System (AFIS) is being introduced both in Tobago and at the Piarco International Airport. In a media release yesterday, the Ministry of National Security says its Minister Gary Griffith, Chief Immigration Officer Gerry Downes and members of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service met with representatives from the Canadian Bank Note Company Limited (CBN), to “discuss ways of improving and further developing the country’s border control capacity with the introduction of the AFIS technology.” AFIS is a biometric identification methodology that uses digital imaging technology to obtain, store, and analyse fingerprint data. It is primarily used by law enforcement agencies to identify suspected criminals. “Governments around the world are increasingly turning to biometrics in an attempt to increase security at airports and border crossings, and to produce more secure identity documents,” says the Ministry in its release. “Minister Griffith seeks to expand the role of AFIS to enrol 100% of all travellers entering Trinidad and Tobago and to capture information on departing travellers at the soon-to-be-constructed Exit Control Stations.” The Ministry says that all the data from AFIS will be shared with the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service. “The implementation of AFIS technology would strengthen the Immigration Division as follows: Capture biometrics and build a database on all personnel entering and leaving Trinidad; Identify persons who use multiple passports for travel; Accurately capture information on over-stayers; Expedite processing of arriving passengers; Accurately identify persons in comparison to using bio data; Create a linked database with law enforcement agencies,” states the Ministry. CBN is the supplier of security products and systems to the Federal and Provincial Governments in Canada and to over 80 countries around the world and was instrumental in overseeing the successful implementation of the Machine Readable Passport in Trinidad and Tobago.
