Beijing resident Yue Yan Mai, 31, said she was keen to get home because she was feeling tired and the train seemed to be taking ages. “I’m a bit unsteady on my feet because of the pregnancy which sometimes leaves me feeling a bit ungainly,” Yue, who is five months pregnant, said. She said she thought she heard something and leaned out to see if she could see the train in the tunnel and “I just toppled over”. “It was a combination of being tired and having more weight than I’m used to. “Suddenly I found myself lying in front of the train. To say it was terrifying would be an understatement.” But while other passengers at the underground station looked on in shock, the train’s driver Lei He slammed on the emergency brake and the train screeched to a halt just as it started to pass over Yue. A rail service spokesman said: “I dread to think what would have happened if he had not acted so quickly.” Because she squatted down and because the train is high above the ground, it did not injure her, but left her trapped underneath until she managed to scramble out and was helped on to the platform by onlookers.Yue was hospitalised as a precaution after her ordeal but doctors said there was no damage to her or the baby and gave her the all clear to head home
