Mirror Lake Reflections: I am a mere 11 hours from the sound of the starting cannon at Ironman Lake Placid. In our house, we often ponder the ¨Why¨ of things versus the ¨How¨ and ¨What¨. The latter are the easy ones to answer in most cases. Answering why is always more difficult and at times, has no answer. Why Ironman? Because a few years ago, standing at the start line with 140.6 miles ahead of me, scared the living crap out of me! We encourage our children to face their fears and overcome them. I felt I needed to do the same. I am not a natural or gifted athlete by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, I pretty much sucked at every sport I played for most of my life. I accidentally got into endurance sports and seemed to have some success with it. That lead to this Sunday. Ironman Lake Placid. I will cross that finish line tomorrow. I will be pronounced an Ironman. There is no way I could have done that without the love, support and guidance of my wife Tara and my kids, the A-Team. I have the easy part of this ride. They had the tough jobs. I know it has been a crazy and arduous ride, but together we will achieve something that seemed impossible only a few years ago. Thank you so much to everyone that has helped me along this journey. I could not have done it without you. See you in a 140.6 miles! -John
