Mirwaiz barred from offering Friday prayers; Hurriyat (M) takes out protest march, activists beaten, old city tense Srinagar: Authorities did not allow the Chairman of Hurriyat Conference (M) Mirwaiz Umar Farooq to offer Friday congregation prayers at historic Jamia Masjid, a spokesman of the amalgam said. He said Mirwaiz has been placed under house arrest for the past three days and today he was not allowed to move towards Jamia Masjid. Reports said Hurriyat (M) leaders took out a protest march against Shopian killings in old city after Friday prayers. However, police resorted to baton charge and tear gas shelling to disperse the protesters who offered stiff resistances and retaliated with stones triggering clashes that were on when this report was filed.
