“Missing our piece of paradise... Congo-Bongo Dream House - Manzanillo, CR” 5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 days ago NEW This place is heaven on Earth. This place is amazing, awesome, and... a little damp! Were being funny, yes, but that was the fun of it! Pura vida for sure. We arrived at night and were all grins when Daan showed us our rainforest home for the first time that would be our shelter for the following seven nights. From our little Dream House its only a ten minute walk to the little town Manzanillo and an even shorter five minute walk to beach. Every morning wed get up make Costa Rican coffee, walk through the most beautiful rain forest path to the beach, say hi to the hummingbirds, sloths, and monkeys and roosters and hens... and the sweet and friendly dogs, on a boardwalk to take a first a many wave ridden ocean swims of the day, and then return for a hearty pinto lunch. Being able to cook your own food and have tasty, fresh drinking water was such a relief. Daan and Marisol have thought of everything and are so chill and helpful, cool and kind. Theyve thought of all the little things - like those special appliances: the necessary coffee machine, but theres also a blender for local, fresh fruit batidos, an enclosed sleeping quarter with a convenient net over the bed, an outdoor shower, river pebbles to walk on, a BILLION dollar 270 degree view, and the convenience and option of laundered towels and clothes. Another awesome touch is the sense of safety and security. The Congo-Bongo property is deep within the jungle and the gates close during the night. A few motion lights come on to help you find your way after a night out at Cool & Calm Cafe or Maxis Bar. Daan & Marisol know the best things to do... so ask for recommendations. The Gandoca Manzanillo National Wildlife Refuge is just a walk on the beach away and is one of the dryer places to hike during the rainy season - NOT! But its awesome and beautiful regardless and a great adventure to hike. Be barefoot or buy some local black boots and bring water. We ventured to the Caribbean side of Costa Rica during the winter, rainy season, so each night it rained through until morning - but its was the BEST. No reason to rush out or do anything... just lay in the hammock, nap, read... or stare outside around us. We miss it! And we miss the CONGO monkey zombie yells! Pura Vida!
