Mission Week Devotional – Day 6 July 20, 2013 Well here we are, the final day of prep week. I hope that you have enjoyed these devotionals and that the Lord has been able to speak to you and stretch you a little bit through them. I can promise you, the words are not from me. I’ve been thinking about what a good wrap up devotion could be. We’ve talked about unity and commitment; loving others; prayer; service and humility so far and I just had to ask God, “What’s next?” There is always something more that God wants to teach us and talk to us about. And that is when this verse was laid on my heart like a brick falling from heaven: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength.” Deuteronomy 6:5 This just makes me smile! I want to step out and say that this is the most important concept of all the devotionals thus far. Love God. Oh how important the deep and intimate love relationship that our Father God pursues with us is. I don’t know if you fully understand this, and to be honest, I’m not sure that I do either. But think about it: The Creator of the universe and the One who gave us life… Okay pause there. GOD. Got it? Know who I’m talkin about? Okay good, moving forward: GOD is infinitely bigger than us and has the power to be any kind of God that He wants to be, but He chooses to be a good God, because that is His nature. And that same God, wants to have a relationship with you and me. I don’t even get that! But I’m honored. And I’m privileged. And you know what else? It’s the most exciting, fulfilling, satisfying, edifying, and beneficial relationship that one could possibly have. Oh and let me add another layer: That same God we’re talking about, the One who wants to have a relationship with us, made that relationship possible in the most incredible display of sacrificial love in the history of eternity. God came down from heaven and became one of us. God was mocked, abused, beaten, humiliated, and hung on a cross to die for you and me. Can you imagine? I’m brought to tears just thinking of how undeserving I am of that kind of sacrifice. If I had been there I would have shouted, “NO JESUS, PLEASE! DON’T DO IT! I’M NOT WORTH IT!” But to Him, I am worth it. You are worth it. And if He had to go back and do it again, He would. So why do we do what we do? Why do we give ourselves over to His will and seek to please Him? Why do we take Mission Week so seriously? “For Christ’s love compels us, since we have reached this conclusion: if One died for all, then all died. And He died for all so that those who live should no longer live for themselves, but for the One who died for them and was raised.” 2 Corinthians 5:14-15 Mission Week is not for us. We don’t do it for the Refuge. We don’t even do it for others. We do it for Jesus. Because He loves us so much and was willing to sacrifice His life so that we could join Him in love. Now I cannot speak for you, and I wouldn’t if I could because this decision is one that can only be made by you, but because Christ’s love compels me, and because He died for me, I will no longer live my life for myself but for the One who gave His life so that I could have one. I love You Jesus, and I love you all. Thank you for the opportunity to share my heart and what the Lord has laid on it and thank you for taking the time to listen. We have a big week ahead of us, see you at church tomorrow!
