Mission to the moon! This robotic mission will orbit the moon - TopicsExpress

Mission to the moon! This robotic mission will orbit the moon at _only 20km altitude_, to observe its (thin) atmospheric environment. It launches late (~11:20 EDT) Friday night - or sometime in the next few days, and as usual can be seen on NASA TV. This is the last planned moon-shot for the US. The observations will be complete in about 100 days (until it runs out of fuel to keep in low orbit) If moon rockets interest you, the Chinese are planning to launch a robotic moon-lander later in the year.
