Ms. Helmick connected the dots between the underfunding of the states public schools, teacher compensation which is uncompetitive with border states, and the teacher shortage in the Jackson Public School District as well as throughout the state. Ms. Helmick also talked about MAEs partnering with other public education stakeholders to promote the ballot initiative to fully fund public schools -- Better Schools, Better Jobs -- which supporters expect to be on the ballot in November 2015.
