Mixed results for the club on the second day of the season today across our junior and senior sides. Results are filtering through from our junior teams with the highlight so far the win by the Adam Smithers-coached u9s. For our seniors, the Triforce Cup side came up against recent A grade powerhouse ARL at Les Shore (as the home team!). It was a cracking game with our boys going down by a single run. Being asked to field first, we managed to restrict Asquith to 3/134, with Damien McMahon taking 2 wickets in his first game of the season and Jack Cincotta proving unhittable, only conceding 9 runs off his 4 overs. Our innings got off to a flyer thanks to Warren Saldanha and Matt Verduin putting on 49 for the opening wicket inside 5 overs, with Matt the primary aggressor scoring 36, including back-to-back maximums, the second of which hitting his brothers car! We progressed through the middle overs steadily, with Chris Verduin leading with 41, outstripping his brothers earlier effort and keeping the asking rate in check. At the loss of the skipper, 12 was needed from 2 overs, and it boiled down to 4 from the final ball to force a super over. Unfortunately, a desperate dive on the boundary prevented 4, leaving us only with 3, and closing the inning at 6/133. Regardless, between last week and this game, there are plenty of positives to take into the season proper, which all the boys are looking forward to. Also, a reminder that senior pre-season training will continue Sunday morning at Mt Colah Public School at 10am, so please come down and put the final touches on your preparation for the coming season!!
