Moatlhodi preaches unity among opposition The Deputy Speaker, Pono Moatlhodi has encouraged opposition parties to work together in the coming general elections. Speaking at a press conference this morning at Botswana National Productivity Centre, (BNPC) where he was welcomed into the Botswana National Front (BNF) by its President Duma Boko, Moatlhodi said, “I want to appeal to opposition parties in this country that Botswana Federation of Public Sector Union (BOFEPUSU) is a shining example for us to copy from. Batswana look for the opposition as the alternative government. So I want to plead and pray that it opposition work together. Let us be serious and look at the bigger picture because Batswana need us and they are desperate for change. People expect to hear our voice at all times,” he said adding that opposition parties should not only be visible during election years. “Election years or no election years we should be we should be seen alive and interacting with Batswana.” For his part, Boko said they were honored to have captured the BDP veteran stating that his experience will come resourceful to the party. He said it was an indication that the BDP is in crisis and it is time for Batswana to embrace change which will be brought about by the UDC. He said they are not about to ask why Moatlhodi is only joining them now. Quizzed what will happen since UDC has already fielded Maokaneng Bontshetse in Tonota North, Boko said the people in Tonota will decide what they want to happen and consult with the party. Meanwhile the Member for Lentsweletau- Mmopane was also present at the event. He maintained that he will stand as an independent candidate stating that he was there with Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC) because they are in the same fight.
