The criminals apparently didnt sell many of the records online. Rather, they were using the information to send spam on social networks for certain groups at a fee. What should be noted however is that these credentials were gathered over the course of a year and a half, it did not all happen at once. So if you had your information stolen, you would have probably noticed by now or haven been alerted of it. If you are looking to nearly prevent the possibility of getting hacked, a 2-step authentication system similar to what we use could be added to your account. Ask us, but its serious stuff! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Microsoft Impostors There is a scam going around where someone claiming to be from Microsoft will call someone and tell them they found problems with their computer. These impostors will tell the person theyve called that they need to be given remote access to their computer in order to help them resolve the issue. When they have access to the persons computer they will show them bogus errors that are not actually damaging to the computer and claim that they can remove those errors for a fee. The fee is usually exorbitant and if the person refuses to pay after giving the impostor access to their computer, the impostor will sometimes start try to damage the computer. If you get a call like this, your best choice is to just hang up. While Microsoft is a reputable company with a good IT department, they do not call customers and work with them one on one without the customer asking first. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Automated Calendar Reminders We wanted to give you all the heads up on a new system we have implemented. Recently, we rolled out a system for automated phone, text and email reminders for upcoming appointments to reduce confusion and cancelations. If you get contacted by our reminder robot, dont be alarmed, well still try to be humans in person! By the way, so far so good as we have really been impressed by the calendaring software and its relatively low monthly cost. Its called AppToto [ift.tt/1oPkCJT] if you want to check it out. If you think it would help your business schedule or your sanity, let us know and we can help you implement it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ What To Do About Spam and Phishing E-mail A phishing e-mail is one of several ways that a computer can get infected with some sort of malware, adware, or even a virus. The unfortunate news is that there is no way to stop these emails from coming. The good news is that with just a little bit of caution you can stay safe. Phishing e-mails are often disguised as something you might interested in or curious about. They are good at making you want to check it out and click something. The key is to avoiding an infection is to take your time to analyze emails you werent expecting to receive. If you cant quite figure out why you got an e-mail (it might even be someone you know whos had their email compromised) dont click any links or download the attachment in it. Just by doing this you can stay safe. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Quick Links MCW Website [ift.tt/1n7FEhe] MCW Blog [ift.tt/1oPkBWg] Save$ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Special! $20 off Virus & Spyware Removal or Tune Up Need a virus removed?
