Modalism, Trinitarianism and Polycentric-Polytheism. That the - TopicsExpress

Modalism, Trinitarianism and Polycentric-Polytheism. That the Divine Mind, or Logos, is the image of the Transcendent Father is the Modalist solution to the question. How does an absolutely transcendent God create and maintain the cosmos, without compromising his transcendence? It also answers the question. How can we know a transcendent God? That the Three Hypostases One, Mind and World Soul are Modes, is the orthodox position in Hellenism. The Divine Triad of Hellenism was adopted by early Greek Christians to explain the HolyTrinity. According to Greek Christianity Christ was the Image of the invisible Father. The ante-nicean church fathers confirm that Monarchianism or Modalism was the mainline belief before the council of Nicea. That belief was compromised because of the growth of Jewish Christianity and Arianism which insisted on the humanity of Jesus. The issue was settled at Constantines council of Nicea. When the Emperor and Bishops affirmed the divinity and humanity of Christ. Trinitarianism was born, God it was declared is three persons but one God. The introduction of a fourth principle, Christs humanity turns three modes into three persons, because Christs humanity is personal. Trinitarianism assert the the Divine Essence is immanent in each of the persons, in other words it isnt a separate principle. This is what supports the idea that the three persons are one God, because if the Divine Essence is a seperate principle then the three persons would be three gods and Trinitarianism would be a form of polytheism. Some modern Hard-Polytheistic Hellenic Polytheists have promoted what has been called Polycentric Polytheism. This is based on the belief that The One is immanent in each divine being. Its asserted that because the One is immanent in the Gods and is not external to them, the Gods are distinct and separate divine beings. Because if the One was external to them it would be a form of Monotheism. What it does support is the belief in interventionist Gods. Like the Gods of Homer, the Gods of these hard Polytheists intrude into nature and peoples lives to perform miraculous feats. Like Trinitarianism it rests on a belief that divine persons are real and seperate. Like Trinitarianism its a rejection of Hellenistic Modalism. Like Trinitarianism it is monotheistic because it asserts that the Divine Essence is immanent in the divine persons. Poly-Centric Polytheism doesnt support hard polytheism, it ultimately betrays it for monotheism. Because what you actually end up with is one God in many persons exactly the same as Trinitarianism but with more persons. Like a kind of many-headed Hydra. The same kind of micromanaging, interventionist God but multiplied. Its a kind of monotheistic fundamentalism in denial, asserting interventionist Gods that are really one god.
