Modern Poisonous Serpents: A reflection from Numbers - TopicsExpress

Modern Poisonous Serpents: A reflection from Numbers 21:4-9. serpents among the people; their bite brought death to many in Israel. Number 21:6. There are still poisonous serpents among us today, because like the Israelites, we complain too much against God and those God has appointed as His ministers of His word and Sacraments. So, sometimes God completely allows us to go our way and when that happens, it is always disaster. We think we can well without God. The three most poisonous serpents are of our modern time are: 1.Secularism: This is the principle of the separation of government institutions and persons mandated to represent the state from religious institutions and religious dignitaries. One manifestation of secularism is asserting the right to be free from religious rule and teachings, or, in a state declared to be neutral on matters of belief, from the imposition by government of religion or religious practices upon its people. Another manifestation of secularism is the view that public activities and decisions, especially political ones, should be uninfluenced by religious beliefs and/or practices. (Telling God that we dont need Him any more. We are okay without Him) 2 Materialism: preoccupation with or emphasis on material objects, comforts, and considerations, with a disinterest in or rejection of spiritual, intellectual, or cultural values. (Saying that we no longer need Religious values) 3. Self-centerdness: concerned solely or chiefly with ones own interests, welfare, etc.;engrossed in self; selfish; egotistical. (Saying that it is all about me and whatever happened to the other does not concern me; he or she can go to hell). As Christians, our life must be Christ-centered. If remove Christ from our life as Christians then we are left with crisis and crisis will lead to frustration and frustration can lead to suicide. So, just as the Israelites in the wilderness looked onto the Poisonous serpent image made by Moses on the tree and got healed when beaten by the life poisonous serpent, so are we to look unto Jesus Christ today on the cross and get salvation from the poisonous serpent of sin. Make your life Christ-centered and you will have peace, happiness and joy. If you do this your life will change for the better, and you will never remain the same. God bless you.
