Modern liberalism or progressivism can trace its intellectual - TopicsExpress

Modern liberalism or progressivism can trace its intellectual heritage back to the mid- to late-19th Century, as Enlightenment Liberalism (individual liberty, free markets, anti-monarchy/democracy, etc.) informed by Judeo-Christian theology gave way to Darwinian scientism and Nietzschian humanism. While wars come and go, certain ideas and dogmas can and do persist. While modern American liberals are certainly more nurturing in their maternalistic impulses than their ancient European counterparts, we should remain skeptical of those humanist ideas which linger like a bad stench, and we should learn our history to identify how arguments in their favor have softened and become more palatable over time.
