Moffitness Newsletter February 2014 WOW...where did January go? Hopefully everyone was has been staying safe & warm and active of course during our lovely mid-western winter. We had a great first month here at Moffitness getting to know all the members and their fitness needs. Thank you to all the members for taking the time to fill out a new registration form it is appreciated. Open House On January 18th we opened the Moffitness Health & Fitness Centre doors to the public for our first ever open house. We were very happy to see so many people take the time to pop in for a visit and check out the gym. We had 20 new members take advantage of our open house deals and 60 people enter our draw for the door prizes and 1 month free membership. The winners were: One month free membership was Brittany Courtney. Door Prize winners were Chris Stevenson, Brent DeBruyn, Cheryl Johnston and Corrie Copper. New Members We want to take a moment to welcome all the new members. Here at Moffitness our mission is to create & maintain a community gym where everyone feels welcomed and accepted regardless of their age or ability. We are working hard to provide a positive environment where people can learn and grow as they pursue their health and fitness goals. It can be overwhelming stepping into the gym for the first time. Thats why we recommend following these 6 tips for success at the gym when first starting out: 1. Request an orientation to learn the function of each machine and proper form. 2. Set realistic goals and timelines. 3. Do some research and have a game plan so your time in the gym is used effectively. 4. Get a workout buddy to help keep you motivated & accountable. 5. Allow yourself to be a beginner and keep working your way up. 6. Be consistent with your healthy eating & physical activity for best results! Nutrition & Weight Loss Recently Ean and I took a Nutrition & Weight Loss course through Can-Fit-Pro. We hope to get certified within the next couple of months and start up a nutrition & weight loss program at Moffitness. Please let us know if this is something you would be interested in. Equipment While we were doing the mini-makeover for the gym we moved a few pieces of equipment around and were pleased to find that instead of taking equipment out of the gym it actually allowed us to bring more in! The equipment includes: 2 yoga mats, 2 foam mats, 30lb kettle bell, 16lb medicine ball, 4 resistance bands, 1 spin bike, 2 TRXs and 1 Olympic bar. We will also be bringing in the a new recumberant bike and elliptical in near future. The current recumberant bike has been acting up lately (sometimes works, sometime doesnt) so thank you for your patience, we hope you enjoy the new one! Heart Month February is heart month. Cardiovascular disease (heart disease and stroke) is a leading cause of death for Canadian men and women, so it is important to understand how to prevent them. Through out the gym you will see hearts with information on cardiovascular disease and how to prevent it.
