Mohsen Amir Aslani taught that the story of Jonah in the Quran is an allegorical tale, meant to be a teaching example. For this, he was arrested and sentence to death. This happens in Iran, ancient Persia. There were many great Persian thinkers, scholars and theologians who added much to Islamic and human civilization, such the giant Avicenna (Ibn Sina) the poet scholar Rumi and the controversial Omar Khayyam. One day in the future some historian will write that in the 21st century Islam was truly in the midst of its dark ages, led by men with dark souls. Pray for this man and think often of others like him who dare to stand up to religious tyranny in what was once one of the most enlightened nations on Earth.
