Mom, can you scratch my back and help me fall asleep? my son yelled to me from his bedroom. Ugh, Im really tired. Try to fall asleep on your own, I shouted back. Then, a vision of two moms filled my mind. Mothers holding the hands of their children while they lay unconscious, waiting and desperately praying for the simple miracle of a smile. I jumped out of bed and made my way to my sons room. A big, toothy grin lit up the room. I scratched away as he quickly drifted into dreamland. Staring at his peaceful face, I memorized the moment. Still to this day I check to make sure hes breathing during the night (both of my sons). I guess I see too much, and know so well the precious gifts in front of me. Make time for your children (any age) before they no longer ask or need your help. Be patient, grateful, and understanding. Help them to know that you will always be there for them, no matter what the circumstances. Count your blessings.
