Mom sometimes stood on our front porch to whistle for us to come - TopicsExpress

Mom sometimes stood on our front porch to whistle for us to come home if we were across the road at our closest neighbors, the Wheelers. She was a heckuva whistler and roller skater. I was always proud of her at our school (and probably our cousins church ones, too) skating parties when she would lace up her own skates and get out there with us. I never could skate backwards but she did it as easy as breathing. Love you and miss you all the time, Mom (and Dad) P.S. When I opened the door last nite, I heard crickets for the first time this summer. Have seen a few little ones the past several weeks, but hadnt heard them chirping till last nite. Also, saw the big, beautiful (at least I assume it was the same one) Monarch Butterly yesterday that I had seen out my kitchen window a few weeks ago by my bumper-crop apple trees. Lots of food for the bird and squirrels for a few months ~ ~ ~ and my wonderful, beautiful white-tail doves are back again this year, only they sit farther away on the electric wires since Xcel put those danged 85-foot poles just behind (after I went out and saw the survey stakes and they were going to be just in FRONT of it and asked if they could at least put them behind) my fence that separates my front and back yards. These are 15 feet taller than the last ones, which were near the back of my lot. Anyway, now those beautiful little doves serenade us from aways down where the wires slope lower a bit. Think Ive told this story on here before, but 3 or 4 years ago I went outside and there was a little one on the lowest piece (about a foot above the ground) of a section of split rail fence between my house and the neighbors. Geez, now Im wondering if I did the right thing as I type this. Anyway, the mom wasnt visible in my driveway next to the fence. I think I remember her in the street, though. Anyway, I got a small blanket and caught the little guy in it and by this time Momma was flying down 2 doors and landed in my neighbors there yard. I let the little guy out of the blanket gently on the ground, backed up into the street, and Momma went right up to him. I didnt stick around cause I didnt want to scare her off again. Am hoping the little one survived as I see 2 or 3 at a time out here on the wires now and sometimes in my apple trees, too (along with those gorgeous Blue Jays at certain times of the year. One time there were 6 at once but the most Ive seen at one time in the last few years is 3. Ill settle for 3 and hope they keep on comin back !
