Momma Lucy, another great FORM beauty and Mother to 2006 litter. Adopted and adored by Donna Prezelski. (And me too) Some words from Donna and a tribute written by her friend. Tissue alert. This girl epitomized the mastiff character of grandeur and good nature, left this earth on July 4, 2014 and died gracefully and peacefully and as quietly as she lived. Here is a tribute to her, written by my friend, Kathleen ORourke (after a photo I took of her in my car on the way home to Connecticut from your house in NH): There she was, sitting up tall in all of her brindled beauty; face in the wind, wonderful sights, smells and sounds rushing up to and then speeding past her. Ever more and more distant the hopeless feeling; the memory of that fence and chain, the cold, the hunger and the loneliness. How did this happen to her? Ah! Yes! She takes a moment to leave this glorious rush of life, turns to her left and sees the woman behind the wheel turning towards her, grinning like a fool. We are free. She turns back to the wind. Another feeling comes. A brief panic and then calm. She knows as all moms would know that somewhere her babies are safe as well. A second chance for everyone. The years pass with the woman and the man. The cold and loneliness have long since been banished from her memory. She has been the Road Warrior for as long as she can remember. She is content, she is safe and she is no longer hungry. They travel many miles together, all three of them, Road Warriors Time passes and somehow now the hours seem to drag yet the days and weeks fly by. The woman and the man are encouraging her to eat. They do not know yet that because of them, she will never be hungry again, her heart is full. Because of them, her heart is full. The ice feels good, it is refreshing but she is tired; everything is moving in slow motion, everything feels heavy. Another piece of ice. She sees the kind and loving eyes of the man. She is not alone, she is not lonely. She is not hungry. Then, a moments pause, a feeling of weightlessness. A welcome respite, peace and calm. She is the Road Warrior again. How did this happen to her? She turns to her right but sees neither the woman nor the man. She looks up but does not see the roof of the car, just the pure Betty Blue of the sky. She is riding much higher than ever before. She looks down and way off in the distant past she sees the chain and the fence, barely visible. Still, she remembers what she had long since forgotten. She remembers the hopeless feeling, the cold, the hunger and the loneliness. Now she remembers something else. She remembers being patient. Somehow they would find her, the woman and the man. She remembers now that she knew this as she waited for them. She knew they would come and get her. She moves her eyes forward and she sees herself with the woman and the man and she remembers how much she was loved. She remembers the many miles they traveled together. She sees their love. Moving her gaze forward still, she sees them alone, the woman and the man. They are lonely. She is not there. She sees a different love now. Not their love for her, but her love for them. She knows now that it is a part of what filled her heart all of those years. They are a part or her, and she, a part of them. She wants to tell them this and to say Thank You. Eyes moving forward once again, she becomes very excited. She is much higher and she can see what they cannot. She will be patient. She knows she will have to wait, but she also sees now that they will find her, the woman and the man. She will wait for them. She sees that they will come and get her. They will come and get her. Ah. Yes. She knows she will then show them what she now sees that they cannot. They are all Road Warriors once again. She sees all three of them, grinning foolishly, faces in the wind. They are free. RIP, Lucy, The Road Warrior
