Today is St. Patricks day. For many of us who live in the U.S. we celebrate it the color of green. We wear green, have green drinks, eat green colored food, wear green jewelry, have parades etc. There is unfortunately a dark history behind the green color. There was a great potato famine in 1840s which forced many of the Irish free mass starvation in their home country in search of better future in other countries including the U.S.A. The people who stayed back were so deprived of food that they ate grass. According to the Irish folk stories peoples mouths were green as they died. At least 1 million in the 6 years of famine. Today as we celebrate the love and happiness, let us remember the Irish of this century. A similar story resonates among the people in the horn of Africa.
