Mommy Question... My son is 9 1/2 weeks old and has been exclusively breastfed. He has a milk protein allergy so I cut out dairy, soy, and eggs and weve been doing great. However, last Sunday I had to go to the ER and ended up having emergency surgery for my kidneys. I have to have another surgery this coming Tuesday and it may not be the last. Im on three different meds that are unsafe for my little one to ingest. Therefore, I started letting my milk dry up this week because I dont know how long this may take until Im better and able to feed him. He was taking bottles of breastmilk and doing great. However, my freezer supply is running low now and weve had to start formula. He fights through every bottle and only drinks an ounce or two. Then he cries and cries like he is in pain and he has so much gas. It has been two days since he has had a bowel movement and he normally went 3-4 times a day. My breasts arent as painful now but still hard and leaking. Im wondering if I start pumping again would I be able to get my milk supply back so that once this is all over I can hopefully resume feeding my son. It is breaking my heart. I wanted to feed him for at least the first year. His older brother weaned himself around 11 months. I have so much mommy guilt that my younger son is not getting the good stuff as long as his brother did and Im afraid if he gets sick at all in the future I will always blame myself that I couldnt feed him longer. His brother has been a very healthy child. Stopping abruptly also has caused my hormones to plummet and Im a mess, mad and sad at that same time and just feeing like this is all so unfair. I know things could always be worse and God has a plan. I just need some advice from some other breastfeeding mommies. Im supposed to return to work on the 20th and so my family thinks with me being ill, plus having to limit my diet, and pumping at work will all be too much on me but at this point Im willing to try. I know I need to get better though or I wont even be able to care for my son. Thanks.
