Mom’s Side Auxiliary – BERNARD G. STEINKE was my Step Grandpa Bob’s Grandfather, so he is my Step GG Grandfather and he was born this day in Hannover, Stadt Hannover, Niedersachsen, Germany. He immigrated in 1886. He was 22 years old when he married in 1892 to EMILIE (AMELIA) EMEALE ILLE who was born in Aug of 1871 in Switzerland and she died in 1910 at just 38 years of age. In 1930 he is on the census in Lackawaxen, Pike County, PA and in 1910 he was in Lehman, Pike County, PA. He died on October 12, 1954 at 83 years of age. Bernie and Emilie had 10 children: 1) BERNARD HENRY STEINKE who was born in Dec of 1897 in NY and he died 75 years later on Aug 24, 1973 in Englewood, Bergen County, NJ. He was a steam fitter for a heating company. He married KATHERINE (KATHRYN) M. KEEGAN, who was born about 1899 in NY and she died 89 years later on May 6, 1988 in Middletown, Orange County, NY. Bernie and Kathy had four boys and my (Step) Grandpa Bob was one of theirs…Robert Anthony Steinke (Jan 3), his brothers were BERNARD HENRY STEINKE JR., JOSEPH H. STEINKE, and JOHN FRANCIS STEINKE who was born about 1927 and he died at 79 years of age on June 4, 2006. 2) GEORGE BERNHARD STEINKE who was born on July 14, 1893 in NYC, NY and he died 69 years later on Dec. 17, 1962 in NJ. In 1900 he is on the PA Census in Lackawaxen, Pike County, PA. In 1910 he was in Lehman, Pike County, PA and in 1935 and on April 1, 1940 he was listed as living in Scotch Plains, Union, NJ. There is a 1942 World War II Draft Card Registration on file as well and that listed that he lived on Mountain Ave in Union, New Jersey (in Scotch Plains) – he was 48 years old, born in NYC, no telephone in the household. This also listed his wife and his employer – who was his father’s heating company B.H. Steinke 16 West Palisade Ave, Englewood, NJ. George was married to CLARA A. DIETRICK (about 1896 in NY) and they had three daughters: Clara, Eugenia (Feb 4), and Jean. 3) Jacob “Jake” Steinke (Sept 14). 4) Emma Steinke (Dec) 5) Mary Steinke (Aug) 6) John C. Steinke (Dec 26) 7) Ottilie Steinke (female) 8) Harry Steinke (May 14) 9) Elizabeth Steinke 10) William G. Steinke (Mar 25).
