Mona and I watched the 2002 Denzel Washington movie John Q - TopicsExpress

Mona and I watched the 2002 Denzel Washington movie John Q tonight, an advertisement for meaningful healthcare reform that goes beyond the 2010 enactment of the Affordable Care Act. In it, Washingtons character John Q. Archbold, faced with his 9 year old sons imminent death and the lack of coverage for needed heart transplant surgeries in his bare bones health insurance package, takes hostages and declares himself the administrator of a hospital wing until his son is placed on the registry for a new heart despite his inadequate health insurance. He wins the battle, escapes gunfire with a minor wound, and gains allies in his hostages; his son gets the transplant; but the Washington character is imprisoned for hostage taking. Some critics saw the movie as propaganda, but it is compelling enough that it should be seen by who doubt the need for medical care expansion.
