Monday - September 23rd REQUEST GRANTED - 1 Samuel 27 David was somewhat in a dilemma because of the persistence of Saul to pursue his life. His natural reasoning got to work and came to the conclusion that if things continued as they did with his opponent, he would finish up dead at his hands. He thought the best idea was to cross over into the land of the Philistines and thus stop Saul in his reckless and mad pursuit. It would appear that he had some kind of friendship with Achish king of Gath - vvl-3. It does not say that he consulted the Lord over the matter, but the Lord kept a watchful eye on him amidst this strained situation. The Lord was evidently with David as he requested of the king a place for him and his men to permanently reside in - v5: “If I have now found favour in your eyes..." He could gain the good will and consent of this heathen king even though he was out of the good graces of Saul that he had helped in a number of ways. This prompts the thought that the Lord can cause even the outside world to be amenable to the requests of His servants when it is essential. There are occasions when things are not altogether clear-cut to us, when things are in a traumatic state and it is not always easy to decide. Sometimes there is a call to use our common sense until we receive a direct word from the Lord with regard to our movements. As we wisely and humbly submit ourselves to the Lord He is able to work on our behalf in the interim periods until the time when things have fully outworked for the next great move in our experience. The Lord will help in handling this phase.
