Monday 12.01.15 WAEMA COMMUNITY SAYS ENOUGH Police in Alotau has praised the efforts of the WAEMA community for fessing up to an illegal home brew issue and doing something about it. Having been associated with lawlessness including stone throwing at passing vehicles along the Alotau to Gurney road, hold ups and more, youths at Waema had decided enough is enough. Last week they voluntarily surrendered more than 15 steam boilers to police and promised a few more by the end of the month. They want to reclaim order in the community and thus give a greater opportunity to those seeking proper and legal employment in turning their lives around. OIC Reservist Constabulary senior sergeant Ben Marjen says its a positive start to 2015 for the community. He says it seems they want to be involved in tangible development and live trouble-free and honest lives. Other neighbouring wards whove heard of the initiative are also contemplating the same and Marjen says its a great change in attitude and the way forward. PPC Joseph Morehari shared similar sentiments and praised the community of Waema for this positive step.
