Monday Funday- Erin and I went out to Wading River and Lewin Farms - TopicsExpress

Monday Funday- Erin and I went out to Wading River and Lewin Farms to buy fresh vegetables. Also she bought a hydrangea bush as well as Black Eyed Susan flowers to plant. Then we went to Baiting Hollow where I did my drive down my late friend Maries street to see if I could run into her daughter. The house is like something out of a Shirley Jackson novel now. Barely perceptible from the street, the cabin Marie so loved, is overgrown now with weeds and fallen timber. The drive that wound to the front door where wildflowers once bloomed, is dark and littered with branches. I walked up the sad and crumbling path seeing no one . I happened to see the next door neighbor leaving and I stopped her to ask if she knew what happened to my old friends daughter who had inherited the cabin. She lives there still the woman said, a recluse, leaving at night in a darkened taxi cab to shop at the all night grocery stores. I believe she sleeps all day, the woman told me, and it made me sad that all the letters I sent had gone unopened perhaps, unread. The neighbor and I exchanged numbers and I left, wondering if I would ever hear from her or the daughter ever again. After that we shopped at the new Fairway in Lake Grove, where we dipped pieces of Italian bread into different olive oils. I also weeded her garden, and planted Montauk daisies and Salvia in the garden. A good day off .
