Monday, July 22, 2013 Scripture lesson for today: 1 Corinthians 13: 1-13 “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails.” 1 Corinthians 13: 4-8 NIV These verses are some of the best interaction verses in God’s Word. Interaction verses allow us to not only put others into the meaning of scripture, but also allow us to be part of the scripture in a way that we may more closely see ourselves. In today’s reading let’s first put God in these verses. Everywhere the word “love” appears, replace it with God. This will give us a clearer understanding of who He is. God is patient, God is kind. God does not envy, God does not boast, God is not proud. God does not dishonor others, God is not self-seeking, God is not easily angered, God keeps no record of wrongs. God does not delight in evil but rejoices with truth. God always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. God never fails. Now for a look at who we are let’s put our name where we put God’s. How do we compare, do we have the love that God has? I don’t know about you, but I sometimes fail at each and every one of these Christian characteristics of love. But one thing I do get is a better understanding of God’s love and what I need to do to be more like Christ. Prayer: Compassionate, Caring and Loving Father, help us to love as you love—help us to see and understand the totality of love and how we, too, can put this love into action in our lives just as Jesus did in His life. In His name we pray, Amen.
