Monday, June 30: If I Were a Car The 1996 Disney movie, Cars, portrayed different characters as talking cars and trucks. Each had a unique personality; each complimented the others. There was even romance in the air. Looking back over my life, I realize that at different ages, I would have chosen to be different styles and models. At age 17 - the age necessary for getting a drivers license in New Jersey - I drove a 1950 Chevy coupe. Even before I bought it in 1960 for $125, my dream was to finish the needed body work, paint it metallic blue, and drop a 283-cubic inch Corvette engine under the hood. That dream never materialized, but to this day, I occasionally reminiscence about this time in my life, and the freedom that i experienced was exhilarating. So, what would I be? A Corvette, Rolls Royce, Jeep, or mini-van? Lamborghini, VW bug, Prius, Mini Cooper, or Tesla? Decisions, decisions. If honest, Id have to say that while its tempting to say Corvette convertible - the car I have wanted since old enough to even think about driving - I realize that in different periods, I would be different cars (FYI: I had an opportunity to buy a 1953 1/2 white Corvette for $300 in 1964, but was only making $1.10 an hour). I might think Corvette convertible, but Im at the life stage where a four-door, 4-cylinder family sedan fits the bill. I can still dream, but getting from Point A to Point B is what matters. Owning who I am may not make me a Corvette, but I can still dream, and that dream will carry me a long way down the road. Blessings and peace, De
