Monday Morning Inspiration: Miserable Mediocrity and being just Good Enough! This past weekend I was invited to be the speaker for Mens Day at Shiloh SDA Church in Petersburg, Va. Their theme was entitled: A Few Good Men. It was a Mighty Move of God on the entire worship experience. Many souls gave their hearts to the Lord during the appeal. Praise the Lord! Notwithstanding, I left Petersburg haunted by the theme: A Few Good Men from a much broader perspective, beside just being Good! How good, is good enough? We all know instinctively, even if we cant articulate it exactly, that something isnt squaring up. Theres a huge gap between what God said in His Word and the results we see in our lives. Its like weve been lulled into comfortable complacency. Then we wake up one day to find ourselves stuck in miserable mediocrity. So we tuck away any dreams and notions of the great things wed like to do for God. So we settle for just being good! After all, were doing good. Good enough. It kind of sucks. But its all we know, which is why we are only looking for A Few Good Men. Living ones life on just being good, isnt the goal! You cant keep living like this. Its not fine for you to settle for going to every day to a job youd prefer to quit, doing decent work, being pretty good person compared to your neighbor, paying your bills on time, having a so-so marriage or relationship, and sporadically reading the Bible as though its your guide to the great things God did in others peoples lives in the past and exempting yourself that it cannot happen for you. I have come to the conclusion that baseline living is not okay. Just being good is alright. Not for the believer in Jesus. Theres a price to pay for Christian complacency. If you keep living on this level, your heart is going to strivel. It might already be striveling up. Your dreams are going to die. They might already be on life support. Will you look up one day and be overwhelmed by the stack of regrets staring back at you? Youll be bitter about the opportunities you missed. Opportunities to be used by God, to touch lives, to get outside of yourself and be part of part of something greater. I know its not easy. But dont tell me its not possible. Jesus Himself said it was. Here is my point: We are so much better than weve become, because God is so much greater than were allowing Him to be through us. In the words of the famous line from the movie, A Few Good Men, I hope you can Handle the Truth today! By George U Got It!
