Monday the 8th December 1980 John Lennon was shot to death by Mark David Chapman. David Gilmour like so many musicians were shocked by the senseless murder. This song was an outcry to this terrible Murder. On your own admission you raised up the knife And you brought it down ending another mans life When it was done you just threw down the blade While the red blood spread wider like the anger you made I dont want this anger thats burning in me Its something from which its so hard to be free But none of the tears that we cry in sorrow or rage Can make any difference, or turn back the page Last November 20th, 1984, at the Capitol Theater in Passaic, New Jersey, a number of guitarists were assembled to perform a one-time only concert. A single back-up band was provided for all the guitarists, presumably in order to speed things up during the show. If each guitarist had brought his own band the set up times between bands would have made the concert an impossibility. However, this idea of using a single back-up band also had its drawbacks. Since the band had to learn the music of all the different guitarists, each guitarist was limited to performing only one or two songs.
