Monday’s ‘Off the Beaten Track’ (6pm BST) opens with a pair of propulsive masterpieces from the post-punk era courtesy of The Jam and The Undertones. No less unrelenting is the track that follows – African music at its most insistent from Congolese scrap metal enthusiasts, Konono No. 1. The show also encompasses the finest in folk in the form of the mighty Bellowhead and Morrissey endorsed Irish troubadour, Damien Dempsey. The very best in recent and new releases is represented by voodoo-jazz exponents Mop Mop, dream pop pioneer Julia Holter and the blissfully sun-drenched Washed Out. I shall also be finding time for a classic slab of hard-bop from Sonny Clark and a fine example of poetry-in-song from the great Reg Meuross!
