Monica King the same CO that you so easily condemned today, called - TopicsExpress

Monica King the same CO that you so easily condemned today, called this afternoon asking us to save a cub in Granisle. It seems to me that you have a very low opinion of our Conservation Officers and all of us here at NLWS know that they do the best they can and that they care deeply. Every single rescue we do has to be approved by a CO so they saved over 300 bears with us so far (not to mention all the other wildlife they bring to our door) and I think that kind of speaks for itself. Some general information for everyone, Bears that are older than 18 month are much more likely to get habituated to humans than cubs. Cubs are like kids not really fully comprehending what is going on or where food comes from. Once they are teenagers that changes drastically. Also housing and feeding older bears is difficult and extremely dangerous and costly. Therefore permits only allow cubs up to 18month for rehabilitation. Older bears are either left alone or if very ill (like the one today) and suffering the COs will be kind and end their pain. We are all grateful to our COs across the Province as they often go way beyond the call of duty to do what they can for wildlife.
