Monumental Visit to Cabrillo National Monument Some would automatically make the assumption that visiting a national monument like the Cabrillo National Monument is a boring affair...not for the kids...and forgettable too. But we cannot say the same for Cabrillo Monument because of several reasons. One, it is a monument that commemorates the landing of Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo in 1542. He was the man who sailed far and wide enough to have made the first landing in this spot, which is the southernmost tip of Point Loma in San Diego. The event is not to be forgotten because it marks the first time Europeans made their way to this part of United States. By the order of Panama, the monument’s construction went underway. The monument is so important to local San Diego people that they have an annual Cabrillo Festival which serves as an open house activity on the first Sunday of October every year. Every year, the locals will put together the festival where there will be a day full of dancing, music, food, drinks, and also not forgetting a reenactment.
