More about the danger of PCBs in the C & D waste stream and the food supply: The EPA states: Today PCBs can still be released into the environment from poorly maintained hazardous waste sites that contain PCBs; illegal or improper dumping of PCB wastes; leaks or releases from electrical transformers containing PCBs; and disposal of PCB-containing consumer products into municipal or other landfills not designed to handle hazardous waste. Polycholorinated Biphenyls are toxic carcinogens that may cycle for years between water, soil, and air- accumulating in leaves, stems, and fruits of food crops; finding their way into dairy products, meat and meat products, chickens and eggs. Land use in the area of the proposed landfill is agricultural and residential. We should be constantly working to reduce the amount of waste we produce and to find safe, effective technologies to dispose of compounds that can kill us. The days of plopping a dump in the middle of a community where people live and contribute to the food supply are over. We know better now. Stop the dump.
