More comments at change.org from all over the world about DeWitt Theater. Once our heritage is destroyed, it is gone for good. The arts are the heart and soul of our culture. A parking lot is just a parking lot. Steven Hale CAVE SPRING, GA When I heard Placer County Supervisors were considering demolishing the old DeWitt Theater I was appalled and extremely disappointed. As a resident of Placer County for over 25 year, six of them in Auburn, I urge our County Supervisors to reconsider this destruction. DeWitt Theater is a historic building and a much needed music and performing arts facility for the community. Robin Besotes LINCOLN, CA I grew up rehearsing and performing with the Auburn Youth Symphony playing the violin and this theater/center was integral in my social and professional development. It is a critical facet of Auburns commitment to youth and the arts and symbolizes the best in local civil society. Michael Montafi AUBURN, AZERBAIJAN In middle school, the DeWitt theater was where I met most of my friends and became the person I am today (as cliched as that sounds). Those walls were where I learned about myself, self confidence, friendship, time management, and public speaking — all gained through the theater programs run out of the awesome historic DeWitt theater. I can honestly still conjure every inch of the place in my memory because of all the hours spent there rehearsing. It was wonderful to feel connected to some Auburn history while being so young —I even got to hear my Grandparents (old Auburnites) wax poetic about the shows theyve seen there thorough out the years. I was very proud to be able to be part of that lineage as a kid. Without that magical place I dont know if I would as well spoken — which has certainly helped me were I study, at UC Berkeley, to eloquently argue issues in debates or simply in lecture. I hold those summers in that theater very dear and I hope you will consider allowing other kids the opportunities to do so. Ally Rondoni BERKELEY, DENMARK When I was younger, I had the pleasure of being able to perform in this beautiful building right here in Auburn. Today, I had the pleasure again to visit this building. I walked into the theatre and had an instant flash back of singing here in my childhood. Walking up onto the stage and looking out into the rows of chairs brought a tear to my eye, and a smile of the wonderful memories to my face. For this building to be taken away would be a terrible decision, and I would be deeply saddened by this. This place will always hold a place in my heart; I hope that the required amount of signatures is surpassed so I will again be able to visit this marvelous building, and be able to stand upon the stage yet again.
