More criminal killings in horseracing. Clear violations of laws that are on the books and absolutely NO enforcement of those laws. How is racing avoiding prosecution? Where is the local DAs??? The police?? Read it and weep for the horses and the agony they endure. Source: horseracingwrongs. The Abuse of Floating Ballerino: Raced on Consecutive Days There are some who hold that certain racing staples - drugging, whipping - are prosecutable offenses under state animal-cruelty statutes. Alas, were not holding our collective breath. Still, occasionally something comes along that is so egregious it practically begs for an arrest. Irish-born 3-year-old Floating Ballerino was raced Wednesday at Delaware Park. He broke a step slowly...showed little and finished last. The very next day - yes, the next day - he was forced onto the track again - in another state (Laurel in Maryland), no less. Two races in two days in two states. Since Maryland was the second venue, lets look at its relevant laws: A person may not: (1) overdrive or overload an animal; (3) inflict unnecessary suffering or pain on an animal. A person may not: (3) commit an act that tends to interfere with, injure, destroy, or tamper with a horse used for racing...(same as NYS Ag.& Mkts Article 26-361) Anyone in the Maryland Attorney Generals office listening? The trainers name is Janet Elliot; the owner is Gregory Hawkins. Act like you care. Frat Man Dead at Charles Town by Patrick J Battuello I have confirmed that 3-year-old Frat Man was euthanized for a catastrophic injury suffered Wednesday at Charles Town (race 7). Prior to his fatal run, Frat Man had nine 2014 starts - these included: 1/29, last, 13 3/4 lengths back, trainer John Robb 4/11, last, 12 lengths back, trainer Robb 5/3, last, 13 3/4 lengths back, trainer Robb 6/27, last, 12 lengths back, trainer Robb 8/1, second-to-last, trainer Robb 8/22, second-to-last, trainer Manolo Mangual If Frat Mans death was not entirely predictable, it still should come as no surprise: He was a gelding descending into the claiming netherworld, a workhorse whose sole function in life was to earn for men. Today, he is all but forgotten, replaced ever so easily by the next not-yet-mature equine up. This is horseracing.
