More info HAWAII ROCK AWARDS My Vision My vision is simple: I want to have an annual awards ceremony, solely dedicated to honor our hard- working rock musicians, song writers, recording artists, producers, event organizers and all others involved in the rock music scene in Hawaii. I want to give our local Rock Community something to strive for, and to look forward to every year. With this annual event, I hope to bring increased awareness to the public and harmony to our Rock Community. I believe this would only benefit the boosting of record sales and attendances to our live shows. I want to take rock music in Hawaii to a higher level. There is an abundance of talent in our Hawaii rock community, but so little support, as evidenced by sparse attendance to several local rock shows in the recent past. As an event organizer/ promoter, sound company owner, sound engineer and one-time musician for well over 25 years in Hawaii, I’ve worked in just about every major venue on Oahu, and have worked with some of the best entertainers in the world. Truth be told, some of the best are right here at home in Hawaii. The “Hawaii Rock Awards” could include “Best of” categories such as, but not limited to: • Musician of the Year • Record of the Year • Album Cover • Song Writers • Record Producers • Band of the Year • Hardest Working Club Acts • Tribute Acts • Hardcore Bands • Punk bands • Classic Rock Bands • Blues Bands There are such a diverse number of “Rock” music categories, that more can be added as we go along. Any and all Rock-Based music can be nominated. It will take time to figure out the categories and where to place certain acts. I would even include: Supportive Club and Club owners, Event organizers, Club Promoters, Concert Promoters, Studio Engineers, Live-Sound Technicians, etc. just to name a few. Damn! Let’s go crazy and make a special category for “Most Supportive Fan of the Year”. It would be a good tool to boost attendance, don’t you think? The sky’s the limit. Awards and nominees will not be chosen by a panel. Awards and nominees of every category would be chosen by the people, the fans of the Rock Community. I also envision a website that people can visit, to nominate and vote for their favorites. I want a web community that artists and event organizers can post links to, so the general public can experience the talent of our local rock musicians, hear their songs and keep up-to-date on local events, including artist pictures, bio’s, blogs and reviews. I would also like to add a page for merchandising: i.e band shirts, records, etc. The possibilities are endless. I would also like to put on events throughout the year to support all the nominees i.e sponsorships, promotions, concerts, show cases, CD releases, sound and lighting, etc. Although I love all types of music, and work with all types of entertainers and musicians, my first love was and will always be , Rock n’ Roll. With everyone’s support, I feel I can make this happen. I have a lot to work on, and it may take time, a lot of blood, sweat and tears to put this all together, but I am going to try my best to make the “Hawaii Rock Awards” a reality.
