More medical updates on Barley Singer from Willow Firesong : Okay, morning hospital call made. Hes off the sedation (as of about the time I sent that last post -- our 9am, your 2.30), and showing more responsiveness. He had good gag reflex, and good choke response, when they took the breathing tube out, and he was moving his left arm to reach for the tube. Hes showing signs of both volitional and responsive motion (pulling away from painful stimuli), which he was NOT doing last night (but then, he was still under heavy sedation). I ran through a list of items with the nurse (who relayed them to the doctor), which might be relevant, based on what they told me about his test results yesterday, and emphasizing that I know its their job to diagnose and treat him, they have the ability to run the tests, and they know what tests to run, I just want to make sure that they have all possible relevant information to work with, especially since they dont know whats wrong. Then I had the nurse put me on the phone with hubby (holding the phone to his ear), so I could talk to him, and he could hear my voice. I told him that our daughter and I are okay and being taken care of, what happened to him (ambulance, hospital, sedation), that the doctors had been told all about his case and were going to take care of him, that he doesnt have to take care of anyone, just wake up and rest in hospital... ...I told him all the things I tell him when he wakes up (or I wake him up) from a nightmare, or when I wake him up because hes snoring. I even sang to him, the love song we made together, when he put a tune to the poem I wrote for him on his 30th birthday. And I kept reassuring him that hed be okay, that we were okay, but he needed to wake up, and then rest in hospital. When I was done, the nurse said he seemed to be a little more responsive, a little more there (which COULD just be the sedation wearing off). Ive arranged to ring back at 1.30pm our time; this nurses shift ends at 1pm, and that should give her time to handle shift changeover, and then be available to update me on the phone. I also told her that hubbys family were all gathering together for Thanksgiving, in the US, today, and that yall have the patient enquiry number at the hospital, and may call -- and that theyre family, theyre authorized, and by their accents they may be known, so to speak...
