More often that not, we are hooked with what we watch (movie or teleserye) because we could identify/relate to the casts. With this, lets have a character-based reflection in our Gospel for this Sunday, Feast of the Presentation of the Lord (or candelaria). In our Gospel pericope (Lk. 2:22-40) present are the following: 1. JESUS, JOSEPH AND MARY - They went to the Temple in Jerusalem to abide with the Law of Moses, the cleansing Mary, and the consecration of Jesus (for redemption purpose). They need not to do such for Mary is immaculate and Jesus is the redeemer, but they did so to live in accordance to the law of God. As a family, do we give way to Gods will/law? Its a good practice that as a family, we go to mass, that we give enough importance to the sacraments of baptism, wedding, confession and the likes. Lets imitate the Holy Family, Jesus, Mary and Joseph. 2. SIMEON - Like the aged Simeon, may we aspire to see (experience) Jesus before we die (not after this life). If someone calls us matanda, lets take it as a complement not an insult, for such term means may tanda, if there is none (tanda), we must be called watanda. : ) As we grow in age, may others see us as epitome of goodness and holiness because we (and others) see and experience Jesus in our lives. 3. ANNA - is a long time widow, in Jewish culture, such fortune means belonging to the lowly and the outcast, besides the personal hardship of being alone is the pressure in the society that she belongs to the less fortunate. With this, how do we cope with problems? Anna, stayed in the temple day and night, this means that she remained in God all her life, may we be like her especially in times of hardships and trials. May Jesus be our LIGHT! Amen! A Blessed Sunday of the Presentation of the Lord in the Temple!
