We now know the identity of the person who won the auction in Dallas for a controversial permit to hunt a rare black rhino in Namibia. Corey Knowlton paid $350,000 during the Dallas Safari Clubs auction on Saturday night. He told News 8 Monday that he bought the hunting permit for himself. Knowlton has a long career as a hunter, and is a member of the Virginia-based Hunting Consortium Ltd. Last year, Knowlton helped reel in what may be the largest mako shark ever caught. On his Facebook page, Knowlton acknowledged the controversy surrounding the auction, and asked that others not rush to judgment. I deeply care about all of the inhabitants of this planet, and I am looking forward to more educated discussion regarding the ongoing conservation effort for the Black Rhino, he added.
