More on Fear For God has not given us a spirit of timidity, but of power and love and discipline. (2 Timothy 1:7 NASB) * I think I have said this before but if I analyze the things that bother me at any given time, I can just about always find fear being the main culprit in what is bothering me. * I believe that being timid pretty much means that we are controlled by our fears. When we allow our fears to control our actions and dominate our thoughts, we may be being timid. * As Christians, we have the Holy Spirit of God indwelling in us, the Spirit who raised Jesus from the dead, and who has unlimited power. We have access to that power. * As Christians, Gods Spirit gives us access to power, love, and discipline! Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 4:6-7 NASB) * One way I believe we can access the power, the love, and the discipline that the Spirit can provide us with is through praying with thanksgiving. The Spirit gives us peace that is not reliant on our knowledge. Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you at the proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. (1 Peter 5:6-7 NASB) * I believe that by humbling ourselves under Gods mighty hand by casting all our anxieties on God, and remembering that no matter what is going on, that He cares for us, we can access the power, the love, and the discipline that the Holy Spirit offers us. * What does having access to the Spirits love have to do with fear? Whoever confesses that Jesus is the Son of God, God abides in him, and he in God. We have come to know and have believed the love which God has for us. God is love, and the one who abides in love abides in God, and God abides in him. By this, love is perfected with us, so that we may have confidence in the day of judgment; because as He is, so also are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves punishment, and the one who fears is not perfected in love. We love, because He first loved us. If someone says, I love God, and hates his brother, he is a liar; for the one who does not love his brother whom he has seen, cannot love God whom he has not seen. And this commandment we have from Him, that the one who loves God should love his brother also. (1 John 4:15-21 NASB) * Another huge way we can access the Spirits power, love, and discipline is by loving God and loving others. Loving others is always the right thing to do no matter what the circumstances. When we take loving actions towards others, I believe we are empowered by the Spirit but when we take unloving actions towards others, I believe we will become more and more timid.
