More on Human Development Report: All neighbors except Pakistan have surpassed India in key health indicators like infant mortality. This should be noted that they were far behind India in 1995. Worse fact is that India is spending lesser percentage of its National Income than these countries on health. Out of pocket expenditure (the one which comes out of the pockets of citizens directly) amounts to whopping 78% in India (in Bhutan its only 29%). Health is a public service and hence should be ensured by the government atleast at the primary level. 54% Indians have confidence in their government according to a recent survey. Will their confidence materialize? Is National Health Mission enough to solve Indias problems?
